The Details

We recommend that our guests wear solid, or nearly solid, outfits for portraits. We want you to cherish your photographs in years to come and so our goal is to convey your personality and the passion of the moment, and not necessarily the clothes.

Although we recommend that everyone should wear similar and complemtary colors, not everyone has to match exactly! Here are a few suggestions

  • Khaki and white- choose a blend of long pants, skirts, or capris with a white polo or blouse. Young girls can wear white cotton dresses. When you design the clothing selection, keep in mind the level of formality and how you would like to display the photographs. For a more contemporary look, try white tops with jeans.

  • Black, dark blue, and other dark tops work well for a variety of elegant portraits. When choosing shades, however, make sure that they match pretty closely. For a more formal portrait, make sure you wear long-sleeved shirts.

  • For a “night-on-the-town” look, bring hats, boots, scarves—anything that says “YOU!” Bring your favorite colored outfits!

Hair, Make-up and other Details.

  • No make-up is needed for children as any scratches and bruises can be retouched.

  • Ladies- to make your eyes stand out, we recommend mascara and brown/plum eye shadows to add depth to your eyes. Use just enough lipstick to make your lips stand out from the color of your skin. Blush helps bring out the rosiness of your cheeks and makes black and white and sepia images more accented.

  • Men - Please shave before the session.

  • Nails- Children’s finger nails should be clean and trimmed with no nail polish. Women can opt for a light nail polish color or French Manicure. Men should trim their nails as well.

  • Keep in mind that tattoos may show up in the photographs. Make sure to cover them up if you like.

Hair Styles

If you’re getting a haircut, make sure to do it at least 2 weeks before your portrait appointment. This allows the hair to settle in to place.

  • Remember to wear your wedding/engagement rings!

  • Avoid wearing watches.

  • Wear only your favorite, classic jewelry—avoid pieces that are too big, unless you want fashion pictures or a “night-on-the-town” look.
